Morwenstow - The Bush Inn

Well, the wind was wicked so we took a ridiculously expensive taxi to Morwenstow, our next stop for the night.

Our taxi driver was sick of England and wants to move to Crete with his wife and three kids and open a restaurant and rent jet skis on the side. His friend just got back from Florida and told him that in the States you can get fast food cheaper that real food - we confirmed.
We did try to talk up the Alice Waters movement and suggested that in the countryside in England we had also been able to get really good food - organic - and that you just had to seek it out.
He was pretty focused on Crete so that conversation didn't go too far.

We arrived early at Morwenstow so took a nice 5 mile circular walk through the fields, woods and coastside before coming back to the excellent Bush Inn and our great room with views across the fields to the sea.

Awesome shower, good beer and wine in the pub, delicious salad and soup and fish for supper (pub chef cooks organic and local) and they also let us use their clothes dryer which was a huge bonus as we did have some hand laundry to do since things were getting a bit rank as they tend to on walking trips.

A very good and much appreciated sleep (after the previous night's torture rack bed.)

Bright and sunny to start - more gale force winds predicted but we pressed on and were happy for it as the winds were east to west and didn't amount to much until almost mile 7 (of 8) and the views were once again spectacular along the coast.
We have left Devon and are now on the Cornwall coast.

Walked into Bude and to The Atlantic House - giant room overlooking the ocean. I'm showered and clean and sitting in the lounge blogging and waiting for it to be time for Happy Hour which I see that it is - so Bye-Bye.

  1. I am seriously jealous hearing about all these great hotel rooms with views of the ocean.....!

Except for torture bed and some strong winds, sounds like a good trip.

England's food sounds like it has improved greatly with the organic food movement. Why grow organic if you are going to boil it to death as they used to do.......I do love their clotted cream, though - mmmmmmm!

  2. At dinner tonight the server asked us if we wanted, with our dessert, clotted cream, double cream, ice cream or custard. The amount of dairy products consumed in this country is ridiculous. And, the Brits are looking a bit pudgy, I must say.
